This is the new situation in the twenty-first century: people ought to be prepared for the fight to come and their weapons are their insight, ability, capacities, and experience to battle the numerous powers of innovation and innovation. The futures of Cathy, Hareton, and Linton are shaped by the vengeful decisions made by Heathcliff. Each character chooses to use Heathcliff’s manipulation in a different way. Cathy is the daughter of Edgar Linton and Catherine Earnshaw. Shorty upon her birth, her mother Catherine passed away. Morrisons Sexual Depictions Essay examples - 2203 Words

Morrisons Sexual Depictions Toni Morrison incorporated vulgar sexual depictions into her novel with distinct literary intentions. Although many challengers of the novel contest that these scenes contain no value, Morrison composed these depictions with specific intent and purpose. It was not for shock value or merely to be obscene, but to illustrate to her audience the damaging effect society can have on its most vulnerable members. She spoke through the silence to lobby the destruction of an innocent black girl and became the voice for suffering individuals who did not have the ability to speak. Even tually, the cycle of oppression completed itself as the oppressed became the oppressor. Pecola became the victimized object of Cholly’s trauma. He reflected his childhood experience onto the destructive treatment of his daughter. Cholly and Pecola’s horrific sexual experiences manifested a type of demon within them, hatred and madness, that inevitably effected how they treated their peers. Despite the vulgarity of Cholly’s actions, Morrison avoided demonizing Pecola’s antagonist; so as to emphasize the flaws of society rather then his particular character. She focused more on the tragedy of his childhood experience and only hastily depicts his experience as an adult aggressor. For the same reason, she chose the vignette structure (in order to stagger the upsetting episodes that occurred). The audience is thereby forced to reassemble the story; causing them to not immediately pity Pecola and criminalize her oppressors. The turmoil that African American mal es experienced in the novel imposed an inferiority complex in their psyche that drove them to persecute individuals weaker than themselves, namely, children. Marketers Persue the Shallow Pocketed Free Essays

Is the information being discussed in this article another example of colonialism? Why or why not? Identify two potential positives and two negatives direct marketing of the poor has on people and their economies. What theory of development is most applicable to the expansion of global markets to poor, low income, and indigenous communities? After reading the information in chapter 8 and the information in the article, â€Å"Marketers pursue the shallow pocketed†, it is my conclusion that the information being discussed in this article is a clear example of colonialism. As stated in the textbook, Colonialism tended to deprive a society not only of its wealth and freedom, but also of its very character, leaving the local people intellectually and morally disoriented (Fanon, 1963), this is a lot like the article which shows that marketing to the poor has become a very hot subject. Another positive aspect of direct marketing is that the economy improves as more money is being spent. One of the negative aspects of direct marketing is that products will be provided in excess however the items may be of a lower quality, and the second negative aspect is that the poor people are being encouraged to purchase unnecessarily and perhaps overindulging in things that are not necessarily needed. Southwest marketing strategy

Table of Contents Introduction Strengths and weaknesses of Southwest’s competitors Plan to differentiate with other competitors Southwest intentions to be a leader Macro-environment issues Trends to impact a business Bibliography Introduction Marketing strategy incorporates marketing goals of a business and puts them into a cohesive whole. The strategy of low-price has been in use, in the southwest airline, from the beginning. They offer cheap flights and, therefore, able of crushing competitors. The strategy of pricing has been successful because it was the opposite of the competitors.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Southwest marketing strategy specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Their goal has been to offer some values required by the travelers such as, leisure to arrive to a new destination, efficiency, flexibility, and comfort all for an inexpensive and fair price. They are targeting business travelers since they travel frequently (Gittel, J 2005). Additionally, the use of non-airline partner services gives credit to the customers. In 2007, the organization enhanced the program and established a new travelers’ business focused on a marketing campaign. It also introduced a freedom award, which allowed the members of immediate prize the chance of exchanging two award tickets that are standard for Freedom Award. Strengths and weaknesses of Southwest’s competitors Strengths enable every business to achieve goals while weaknesses make the business slag behind. Among the competitors are the AMR corporations and JetBlue airways. The AMR Corporation has a strong network across the world, strong alliances and ties-up of marketing which makes it compete with the Southwest. Additionally, it has an outlook to airline passengers that are positive. However, it has a decline in operation efficiency and a performance of DOT Domestic that is weak that becomes a weakness. I t is also facing a threat of price discounting and intense competition, and obligations of security among others. The JetBlue Corporation has a unique relationship, which the company enjoys since its inauguration with the workers. It managed to keep its costs low and involved high profits with efficiency of employees. It used its workers roles to play. Its weakness is that of economy and the oil prices that are rising on top of the debt the company has. Plan to differentiate with other competitors There are some essential things required by southwest airline so as to differentiate itself with other competitors keeping of low costs and treating workers well is an obsession and a commitment to manage the company. A sense of futurity and historicity is necessary in order to keep the company going.Advertising Looking for research paper on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Treating them well will give them a heart of also treating the customers well hence, success of the business (Lauer, 2010). Southwest intentions to be a leader The Southwest airline, unlike its competitors in the industry, did not use strategies that are convectional, or which focused on barriers of entry like networks of hub and spoke. Furthermore, it did not use complicated customer segmentation, and information via systems of computer reservations. This strategy was unusual. As described by the southwest’s management, its fundamental strategy was competing against the car. They proposed to compete by providing reliable, friendly, and a service that is of low cost on flights. They required to deliver more for less, which translated to the derivation of more from their workers for monetary compensations of the same kind. Consequently, the company thought of ways that would he lp to increase the component of non-monetary compensation for its work. By this, value of its employees would be created and thereby the employees would be motivated in conversion of values to customers, and designing processes of operation in order to acquire firm value. Additionally, behavioral norms that are encouraging would enable workers to improve their services and reduce costs. The motivated and happy workers of the southwest company adopted the systems and processes and went an extra mile by making things happen. Resistance and chaos comes with change, but it was not so to the southwest since it captured the value through superior service and low costs (Gittel, 2005). The environment created by the southwest company respected the individuality of the employee and ensured they fit into the culture of the company. It introduced fun at work for workers in order to motivate them and fun games for their customers. Furthermore, it encouraged employees to dress up casually all th rough the summer period, and aligned its processes of operation and practices of human resource with the culture of the company. Macro-environment issues Macro-environment factors are relevant in every firm. It considers economical, political, technological and social issues. Politics influences many companies and determines how the company should work (Lauer, 2010). A political climate that is harsh makes a company lose its profit. Therefore, politics determines the extent of the business. The southwest is in a stable country that enables it to grow.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Southwest marketing strategy specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Economy is another aspect that determines whether or not the objectives can be achieved. Some of the things looked upon are inflation rates, budget limits, salary structure, maintenance of equipments and how a business should operate. The southwest looks for a fai r price that is affordable to the travelers. Consideration of social factors in the Southwest airline is essential since it concerns safety. Security is the focal point determining how airlines should operate. Southwest should maintain a healthy relationship with its travelers in order to succeed in business. The other aspect of macro-environment is technology. Most of the airlines are hoping that a new and cheap form of fuel comes to the existence in order to cab the problem of high costs of gasoline. Furthermore, automated kiosks of ticketing are adding up like never before. The south west airport continues to introduce machines in order to enable streamline of the business (Lauer, 2010). Trends to impact a business Trends entail analyzing historical data of a certain time in order to determine the growth of the business. It also helps in predicting the future and shapes the decisions of strategy in a business. Trends used to impact a business should understand the market currents and make decisions on the good time for going with the current economy. Some of the markets are growing and other going backwards (Gittel, 2005). A business should encourage technology in order to experience a significant growth. The trend gets attractive by looking at the services of models of business. Bibliography Gittel, J (2005). The Southwest Airlines way: using the power of relationships to achieve high performance. Organizational Behavior Essays - Free Essays

Employee Attitude/Organizational Behavior Essays - Free Essays Employee Attitude/Organizational Behavior Introduction A happy worker makes for a good worker you say? Well, United Airlines had somewhat of an all for one employee attitude in July 1994. They announced the purchase of their own company for which they work for $5 billion through ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan). So now, in the case of United Airlines, there obviously is a soar in employee productivity and spirits. Stocks have risen 120% due to this buyout (almost three times higher than the airline industry average gain). Every company or small business owner desires a positive employee attitude within his or her organization for high productivity and quality. United Airlines achieved this because the employees themselves took action, but for the majority, it is the managements first move. Taking the Apple from the tree The Idiots Guide for Changing Employee Attitudes would say to pay the employee what O.J. paid his defense team. Take away the money part of a job then no one except an old volunteer worker for a Save the World Foundation or a simple dork is going to show favorable attitudes towards the job. Now lets get realbut I thought that we were! Money can hypnotize some employees to become a more productive worker, but not all employees. (And even the ones that are motivated at the first glimpse of dead presidents will soon want. you guessed it, more money in order to drag their lazy ass up the next step). What about Bill Gates techno wizards at Microsoft? What sum of money short of Bills own bank account is going to motivate these 30-year-old Gulfstream owners to change their snobbish attitudes? On a more practical basis, what about those employees who value intrinsic rewards over the monetary type? Not all employees will be weaned with the flash of cash. So we all must consider the fact that human beings will be consistent towards the general sense of satisfaction, but what sort of things lead to this satisfaction? What kind of satisfaction are we looking for? More so, what is going to satisfy an employee? Most of the research in the study of OB (Organizational Behavior) are concerned with job satisfaction, job involvement and organizational commitment. (Robbins, 1997) The second two attitudes, job involvement and organizational commitment, are more or less the results of job satisfaction. An employee who has a high level of job satisfaction tends to bear attitudes, which are favorable to the organization. When a prospective employee goes to that interview, there are going to be friends of that prospect who will give the most simple advice of Sell yourself! This is your chance to prove yourself to that important company! Little do those simpleton friends know that this is also the chance for the company to lay a sales pitch on the prospect too! Managers are concerned with the efficient operation and profit margin of the company more so than an employees job satisfaction. (Robbins, 1997) To managers, an employees job satisfaction is just an insurance that the employee will be productive and not skip work, and of course, to get the best man for the job. So of course, when a manager giving the interview favors a prospect, only the jobs favorable side will tend to be revealed. The prospect is told of a wonderland where the corporate ladder is actually a stepping stool. There is no mention of the negative sides, to which the manager does a David Copperfield on. The applicant now has expecta tions about this job that has to be met by the job or there will be a lot of dissatisfied employees. Balancing the positives with the negatives is important so that the employee will not be disappointed and become a problem that couldve been avoided from the beginning. (Robbins, 1997) Mirror, mirror on the wall. Successful leaders have vision, communicate well, make effective decisions, and motivate their followers. Employees are more likely to respond to a leader who is likable and credible. A leader who would want to change attitudes must have a very unbiased one. The managements attitude is going to give employees a very visual idea of how his or her job at the organization is going to generally be, and once

The Wright Brothers Famous Quotes

The Wright Brothers Famous Quotes On December 17, 1903,  Orville Wright  and  Wilbur Wright  successfully tested a flying machine that took off with its own power, flew at even speeds, then landed safely without damage and started the era of human flight. The year before, the brothers tested out a number of aircraft, wing designs, gliders, and propellers in order to understand the complexities of aerodynamics and hopefully create a powered craft capable of prolonged flight. Throughout this process, Orville and Wilbur recorded many of their greatest quotes in the notebooks they kept and interviews they made at the time. From Orvilles thoughts on hope and living to both brothers interpretations of what they discovered during their experiments, the following quotes encapsulate the thrill the Wright brothers felt when creating, then flying, the first self-propelled airplane. Orville Wright on Dreams, Hope, and Life The desire to fly is an idea handed down to us by our  ancestors  who, in their grueling travels across trackless lands in prehistoric times, looked enviously on the birds soaring freely through. The  airplane stays up  because it doesnt have the time to fall. No flying machine will ever fly from New York to Paris†¦[because] no known motor can run at the requisite speed for four days without stopping. If birds can glide for long periods of time, then†¦ why cant I? If we worked on the assumption that what is accepted as true really is true, then there would be little hope for advance. We were lucky enough to grow up in an environment where there was always much encouragement to children to pursue intellectual interests; to investigate whatever aroused curiosity. Orville Wright on Their Flight Experiments In our gliding experiments, we had had a number of experiences in which we had landed upon one wing, but the crushing of the wing had absorbed the shock so that we were not uneasy about the motor in case of a landing of that kind. With all the knowledge and skill acquired in thousands of flights in the last ten years, I would hardly think today of making my first flight on a strange machine in a 27-mile wind, even if I knew that the machine had already been flown and was safe. Isnt it astonishing that all these secrets have been preserved for so many years just so we could discover them! The course of the flight up and down was exceedingly erratic, partly due to the irregularity of the air, and partly to lack of experience in handling this machine. The control of the front rudder was difficult on account of its being balanced too near the center. When the machine had been fastened with a wire to the  track so that it could not start until released by the operator, and the motor had been run to make sure that it was in condition, we tossed a coin to decide who should have the first trial. Wilbur won. With 12 horsepower  at our command, we considered that we could permit the weight of the machine with  an operator  to rise to 750 or 800 pounds, and still have as much surplus power as we had originally allowed for in the first estimate of 550 pounds. Wilbur Wright on Their Flying Experiments There is no sport equal to that which aviators enjoy while being carried through the air on great white wings. More than anything else the sensation is one of perfect peace mingled with an excitement that strains every nerve to the utmost if you can conceive of such a combination. I am an enthusiast, but not a crank in the sense that I have some pet theories as to the proper construction of a flying machine. I wish to avail myself of all that is already known and then, if possible, add my mite to help on the future worker who will attain final success. We could hardly wait to get up in the morning. I confess that in 1901, I said to my brother Orville that man would not fly for 50 years. The fact that the great scientist believed in flying machines was the one thing that encouraged us to begin our studies. It is possible to fly without motors, but not without knowledge and skill. The desire to fly is an idea handed down to us by our ancestors who...looked enviously on the birds soaring freely through space...on the infinite highway of the air. Men become wise just as they become rich, more by what they save than by what they receive.

Collaborative Learning in E-learning Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Collaborative Learning in E-learning - Essay Example In order to ensure that collaborative learning is effective, asynchronous online discussions have been perceived as an efficient way for learners to participate in high quality discussion and intrinsic cognitive collaboration. This is because asynchronous online discussion gives learners enough time to reflect on their friend’s findings and contribution and reason about their own contributions before sending them off to their friends. Collaborative learning looks forward in fostering the argumentative quality discussions among learners in order to improve personal knowledge acquisition. In order to ensure efficiency of the collaborative learning, it is significant to apply additional instructional direction, which may assist learners to use the advantages of asynchronous communication or interaction for argumentative knowledge acquisition. For instance, knowledge construction via collaborative discussion is vital since collaboration methods sequence, define, and assign learnin g activities to distinct learners and can in turn facilitate activities such as construction of arguments during discussions. Collaborative learning in E-learning is rooted in constructivism. It intensively focuses on how productive peer collaboration can be stimulated and sustained in computer-mediated environments and how these collaborative activities facilitate learning. The use of Computers in learning will aid in providing sentence openers to ESL students, software-embedded collaboration scripts and representational guidance in order to improve the quality of online argumentation or moderation among students. In order to make collaborative learning effective, ESL students are encouraged to meet in groups. Social Work :: essays research papers

Service Learning Research Paper Dictionary.com defines homelessness as the state or condition of having no home (especially the state of living in the streets), people without homes considered as a group, having no home or haven. The homeless are the most noticeable of America’s social tribulations. You can see homeless individuals everywhere in cities, town, suburbs, and rural areas. Believe it or not everyone has a reason to why they are homeless.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Well if that is the case, why do many individuals choose to be homeless is the question? Who are the homeless? Are they comfortable with their living situation? Do they have any family? What are wrong with shelters? Who actually goes to shelters? These are many questions you ask yourself. As an issue homelessness first really hit the public consciousness in the early 1980s. By 1987, the federal government had decided to help, passing the McKinney Act, which directed federal money to support homeless shelters. Yet 15 years later, the cycle continues.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã¢â‚¬Å"It has been suggested that newly homeless people are more likely to bypass the shelters and use their homeless assistance money to stay in a motel. Because the government assistance is not sufficient to help the most needy† (Seltser & Miller, pg 48). Again you ask yourself what is the meaning of being homeless? Just think about people who sleep on a park bench thinking warm thoughts, while you’re sleeping in a bed as comfortable as a cloud. Talley, Eitzen, & Timmer stated that, public welfare fails to supply adequate levels of wages and housing support that would avoid them from becoming homeless. People might lose their homes due to loss of employment, overwhelming medical expenses and debt, or domestic violence. Homelessness can affect people of any age or gender, but the majority of homeless people are elderly men, single women with young children, and teens who have run away from home. You can categorize homelessness as a social class. Race also plays an important role, since people of color are among the extremely poor. There are people with many different problems that force then to become homeless. They do however all have one thing in common they have nowhere to live. Some factors that contribute to homelessness in America that make it unpreventable are the lack of education, economic factors and mental illness. Lack of education is something that is looked down upon in today’s society.

I plan to use the following method balance work, family, and Penn Foster. II. Step 1: Figure Out What Really Matters in Life 1. Spending introspective time thinking about my life is the first step to achieving a balanced life. 2. I use an exercise for figuring out what matters most,† Laura Berman Fortgang (a personal coach) tells WebMD. She has her clients take a couple days off from work to contemplate the following series of questions: 1. If my life could focus on one thing and one thing only, what would that be? 2. If I could add a second thing, what would that be? † and so on. (WebMD) 3. After the list is compiled, then the plan is to de partmentalize my life. 4. When I'm at home with the family, I will focus and concern myself with them. 5. However, when I'm working on Penn Foster, I will only be thinking about learning and completing assignments. . This will help me to spend quality time in the areas that are most important. III. Step 2: Figure Out â€Å"Musts† vs â€Å"Shoulds† 1. The next step will be to figure out the difference between â€Å"Musts† vs â€Å"Shoulds. † 2. â€Å"We always manage to find time for those things that we decide we must do and its the things we think we should do that get left by the way side. † (Caroline) 3. To do this, I need to take my list from Step 1 and decide which activities on the list must I do. 4. Then, I need to take activities that I would like to do and put them in the should category. 5. While I do this, I need to be careful not to put too many commitments into the must column. 6. The reason is to not overwhelm myself and over commit my time. 7. Some of my musts will be family, work, and Penn Foster. 8. Right now, everything else in my life I consider a â€Å"should† until school is finished. IV. Step 3: Take Daily â€Å"Time-Outs† 1. The last step to ensure that I can balance my life is to take daily â€Å"time-outs. † 2. â€Å"Take a nap, a walk, or a mini-meditation break with a few minutes of silence. Maintain daily rituals, such as teatime, meditation, prayer, exercise. †(Womensnet) 3. By doing this, I can adapt myself to my new hectic schedule. 4.
